Concentra Donates $60,000 to Canada’s Credit Union Communities

SASKATOON – To celebrate Credit Union Day, Concentra Financial is pleased to announce the recipients of its Empower Your Communities initiative which provides $60,000 to support credit union community commitments across Canada.

In a nationwide call-out for interest in early October, Concentra asked applicants to submit their proposals for a local project that is being led or championed by their credit union. The criterion was that it must embody our shared co-operative values and demonstrate credit union leadership within the community. Concentra reviewed the 29 applications and is pleased to award one $10,000 donation to the following credit union initiatives; one in each geographic area which Concentra serves:

British Columbia: Community Savings Credit Union Ltd. (Surrey,  BC)
The Protein for People Project

Alberta: 1st Choice Savings and Credit Union Ltd. (Lethbridge, AB)
Big Brothers & Big Sisters, Bowl for Kids’ Sake project

Manitoba: Grandview Credit Union Ltd. (Grandview, MB)
Community School and Playground project

Saskatchewan: Churchbridge Credit Union (Churchbridge, SK)
Churchbridge Community Swimming Pool project

Ontario: United Communities Credit Union (Essex, ON)
Farms to Food Banks Program

Atlantic: Metro Credit Union Ltd. (Charlottetown, PEI)
Camp Gencheff for children/young adults with physical/mental disabilities

In addition to the above-noted recipients and in recognition of the time and effort spent in submitting their applications, Concentra will also be donating $100 to each of those 23 initiatives that were not awarded the $10,000.

“Given the short lead-time on this project, we are thrilled with the quality and diversity of applications,” says Mary Beckett, Executive Vice-President and Chief Governance Officer at Concentra. “It was a great way to celebrate credit unions and we look forward to doing this again next year.”
